I will never vote for any government that puts free people into detention camps, will you?
If you think freedom is not the most important thing as an election issue, see how you feel when a government takes your freedom away because you were seeking refuge.
The Australian Human Rights Commission says that there are, 1,852 people in immigration detention facilities, and 585 people in community detention in Australia. This includes 104 children in immigration detention facilities and 331 children in community detention.
Some of these are people who have over stayed their visa or breached their visa conditions, but the majority of people in these camps are people who are locked up because they decided to seek freedom in Australia because their country is too dangerous to live in. And there is no way to get into an immigration program to Australia because they either don’t exist in some countries, or the queues are so long that progress looks impossible.
How would you like to be one of those people?
The UN Refugee Convention (to which Australia is a signatory) recognises that refugees have a lawful right to enter a country for the purposes of seeking asylum, regardless of how they arrive or whether they hold valid travel or identity documents.
Are you going to vote for a government that breaks this convention? If you are, you may want to think about your rights. Because if they will do this, they can take away your rights at any time they wish.
Freedom is the most important thing, and without freedom, your self-worth as a human being is meaningless. Especially when the country you thought would help you locks you up in a detention camp in another country and does not allow the world to see and hear what it is doing to them.
Many of the people in these detention camps are being mentally and physically harmed. This is what happens when a country takes away your freedom, they take away your health. You are left with no voice, and no hope. How does that make you feel as a human being? It sickens me.
Do not vote for any government that locks free people up. This must be your first decision when choosing to vote this Saturday.
